Karen Shann
T1D Partnership is an independent diabetes education practice, established in Dec 2013.
“Working together, making the difference.” is Karen's philosophy of care. She believes in building a rapport with and ascertaining the needs of her clients. She then establishes an education plan that puts her clients at the centre of the plan. Working as a team with her client and the other members of health professional group means Karen's clients have all their needs addressed. Making the difference for her clients now and in the future.
Karen is a Registered Nurse and Credentialled Diabetes Educator with over 30 years of experience. Her area of expertise is in the care of children, adolescents and adults with type 1 diabetes. However she has extensive knowledge of the care required by people with type 2 diabetes.
She has a wealth of experience, both personally and professional, in the education of people newly diagnosed with diabetes and ongoing care they require. This includes people who choose to manage their diabetes with an insulin pump.
Karen is a Certified Pump Trainer (CPT) and Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) educator. She is accredited with the four major insulin pump companies in Australia.
Karen works closely with a number of paediatric and adult Endocrinologists as well as hundreds of general practitioners. She provides education and care in the community and in the hospital setting.
Using evidence, research based practice is important to Karen and she attends professional development conferences to ensure she provides up to date information to her clients. She is part of the State Network Diabetes Working Group looking at policies to improve the care received by people with diabetes.
